In 2011, Nicole Infante first presented the idea for Grandwich at a 5×5 Night competition. Since then, this sandwich competition has grown with support from local organizations who wanted to help make Nicole’s concept a reality. Over 50 different businesses have competed in the competition’s four years of existence, many returning year after year to take their shot at the “Grandwich Winner” title.
The winner of the Grandwich title will be determined on July 30th when a panel of five judges will visit each of the top ten establishments and critique their creations. After tasting the ten sandwiches the judges will award the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners at 3:00 p.m. The popular winner, as determined by the entry receiving the most votes from the public, will be announced at this time as well.
CitySēn Lounge’s entry The Ricky Ricardo was created by Emily Dilly and consists of thinly sliced local cuban style pork, the Cheese Lady leyden cheese, spicy purple Farmer’s Market cortido slaw, creamy garlic & lime aioli, fried green tomatillos, in a toasted locally-sourced cuban bun. Served with choice of house cut fries, tortilla chips, soup, or salad.
The top ten sandwiches by popular choice are:
Blue Dog Tavern
Bulls Head Tavern
Grand Rapids Brewing Company
Peppinos Sports Grille
Raad’s Mediterranean Grill
Vault Express Cafe
